Re:

DesRosiers--Measurement of Research Activity

One of the tasks assigned by DesRosiers to the University of Regina and the University of Saskatchewan is to develop a mutually agreed upon assessment of research activity. This measure will subsequently be used to allocate 30% of the block grant to universities.

The attached Discussion Paper has been prepared to provide a framework for discussion amongst faculty as to the principles upon which such an important measure should be based. It is essential that we receive input from all academic units. We request your unit’s input on:

the principles (attached), which will be used to guide development of assessment criteria and the process, and,
the criteria and process your unit would recommend.

Please note that the views of our colleagues from the University of Saskatchewan and those of the government may differ from that identified in the attached.

We look forward to receiving your unit’s response by March 31st.

Thank you.
